Research Overview

Established Researcher [R3] with 10+ years research experience. During the Ph.D. stage, my main research was related to radio propagation at cm-wave and mm-wave frequency bands in urban mobile broadband scenarios. The empirical data and results from my Ph.D. thesis have been considered in the development of several 3GPP and ITU-R standards targeting future 5G scenarios. At present, my investigations have shifted towards the new cellular scenarios, where I am involved in the research, development and testing of innovative wireless solutions for wide area, non-terrestrial and industrial IoT scenarios.

I currently lead the 5G for Industries Research Group [5G4I] and coordinate the Industry 4.0 Experimental Research Activities at the WCN Section. I am also coordinating the AAU 5G Smart Production Lab, in collaboration with the Department of Materials and Production.

My main research topics and areas of expertise can be summarized as follows: Field Measurements, Radio Propagation, Channel Modeling, Radio Network Planning and Optimization, Heterogeneous Networks, cmWave and mmWave Frequency Bands for Mobile Broadband, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Communications, Ultra-reliable Low-latency (URLLC) Communications, Low-power Wide-area Networks (LPWAN), Smart-X, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN),Industry 4.0, and Industrial IoT.

As an applied-science researcher, I have gained quite a lot of practical experience with the following technologies: 2G, 3G, 4G, NB-IoT, LTE-M, 5G, WiFi(a,b,g,n,ac), WiFi-6, LoRa, Sigfox.
